  1. Its either that or burn their trailers. Well they live in the trailers so cant burn those down.

  2. 1. it's WEST VIRGINIA!

they don't have bonfires or, effigy's there yet.

    2. they used to play KENTUCKY, quite often. it's a tribute to former U.K. Quarterback, Tim Couch.

  3. To get rid of the cooties and head lice.

  4. First of all all those answers where stupid and lame, closet one answer about the pick up truck calling this a tradition that got started from this.

All college programs have a tradition of some sort, how it got started most dont know, we only get passed down from what we been told how it got started.

This couch burning and Im from West Virginia that follows its football program closely this is the first time I heard of couch burning. Most likley, since West Virginia has been rated the number 1 party school in america, mix all that alcohol and a big win that mixture usually translate into something getting destroyed, unfortunately a couch left out to be picked up for garbage was selected to be caught on fire.

No tradition Im aware of at West Virginia of this nature, the students, usually as a tradition try to sneak ways into a game with alcohol by the way is against the rules for students attending WVU. Thats the tradition, study hard, go to the football game, think of a clever way to sneak in you alcohol beverage of choice, get drunk and rowdy rooting for WVU, and trash stuff we we win and trash visitors things when we lose. WVU was also voted as the most hostile enviroment to play at simply due to all those students getting drunk and partying. So they now have camera's posted in the student body section trying to catch students drinking alcohol at WVU football games. Amos Zeroe, a very good tailback at WVU selected WVU simply because the fans where simply nuts about football, something he didnt notice at other programs offering scholarships.

  5. Because they can afford it.

  6. Because we are just that cool =) haha

But I do like the answer from Douglass.

FYI... they really started cracking down on students catching couches on fire so now if you are anywhere near a couch burning you can get fined.. so you don't hear about as many as there used to be.

    LETS GO MOUNTAINEERS!!!!! <3

  7. because they are a bunch of retarded coal miners....bleh...s***w WVU

  8. honestly, i think it started because they were playing a rival school and a rival fan had a couch on the back of their truck in the parking lot, so WVU's fans pulled it off the truck and set it on fire...but im not sure, i just think i had heard that somewhere
