Question:

Why do YOU love Rugby?

I assume that we are all agreed that Rugby is the greatest sport on the planet.

But what is it about the game that makes you love it so much?

For me it's the fact that you can absolutely nail someone with a huge hit, get crushed at the bottom of a ruck then help each other up and commend the tackler or be commended on the tackle, what other sport does that happen in?

  1. I cant think of a reason not to love the game.  It has everything and its for everyone.  Race, ability, wealth, even physical disabilities don't exclude you.  You can play wheelchair rugby, my brother played against a one armed guy and I have seen a woman with no legs play.

It's one of those team sports where you rely on everyone on your side whether you like them or not.  I've played with guys I can't stand to be around when we're away from the field, but at practice and on game day, you'd think we were brothers.

I have to go with the team concept and the way all the players come together despite any differences they have because it is like going to war without the extreme consequences.  I've seen guys fighting and arguing with each other at practices and they truly do not like each other but if one gets in trouble in a game, the other is the first guy there to back him up... it's FANTASTIC!

  2. I love the physicality of the sport and that to the 'untrained' eye it looks like a brawl but it is actually one of the most technical sport there is. Everyone on a rugby team has a specific role and develops certain skills to fill their position on the pitch. Once backs and forwards are playing well together it is probably the best spectator sport on the planet!

  3. I love it because I get to watch my man tackle guys and just flatten them...!!!

  4. oh my goodness, where do I begin.  I am a crazily passionate Springbok supporter living in the USA.  I am going to watch the USA Springbok match at an Irish pub on Sunday.  I can scarcely think of anything else.  I am sooooo happy that its Friday and I only have two days to wait.  Being a Springbok, I have to say that rugby is in my blood.  If I wasnt a girl (although I know they have women's Rugby Teams) and wasnt too small, I would play in a heart beat.  How can I describe the pride I feel when I watch my "boys" run onto the firld?  The adrenaline starts pumping, heart rate soars and I am RIVETED>  I have been known to hurl odscenities at a ref. or two.  I have also been known to yell out "Don't hurt him!!!!"  when one of the bokkies get tackled.  I have even been known to yell :Kill him!!!!" to my shame.  Why do I love rugby you ask?  Besides God and family, what else is there??

  5. For me its a game with lots of action, I love it when the guys form a rug......the team effort to get the ball over the trie line.

  6. For me, it's the adrenaline rush. I am yet to come across a sport other than rugby that gives you such a feeling.

  7. Because it is as tough and honest as life is. There is opportunities for all shapes and sizes to play and they all have a fair chance of making an impact in the game. There is brute power and aggression as well as finesse and flair. It reminds me of our humans instinct to survive and fight. It is furthermore a colorful game where you have to use more than just your feet or just hands to control the ball.

  8. Because I'm Welsh!

Seriously though, it's because you can take women and children to any match, and opposing fans mix freely, and there's never any trouble. Unlike in football, which could do with learning a thing or two from rugby. Rugby has no big girls' blouses diving around, pretending to be injured; getting paid FAR more than anyone rightfully should or being allowed to abuse fellow players and officials without any retribution. It's high time someone brought football players down a peg or ten.

Rugby rules! Who wants to sit through a tedious 1-1 draw, or a 1-0 victory when you can watch a 55-24 tryfest?! (Unless you're watching England, obviously!!!)

  9. mans game of strength,honesty.fairness.skill..i love football but dont enjoy it as much as i used to for all this falling down and  diving to just cheat.and well overpriced players.

  10. I must agree with most of the above.

I have played rugby for years now and what keeps me playing is the bond between the players on your team. You need to look out for one another, look after one another. When your mates on the ground its about picking him up or getting stuck in and protecting him. Its the danger and its the beer after the game that delays the pain till Sunday.

  11. boys wearing shorts and running and wresling each other in mud and rain and sweat and blood - uhmmm - I guess that's just about it.

  12. Me?

It's because i have an odd shaped ball aswell..!!!

**Five thumbs down..???  Cruel world, punishing an attempt at humour..!!*

  13. why do i love rugby......say HOT Richie McCaw playing it...........

  14. I don't.

    Gimme Cricket any day.

  15. It requires all round athletic ability.  You have to be strong but not at the expense of endurance.  You have to be able to use your hands (everybody gets to handle the ball unlike American football) and your feet.  It requires speed, power, balance and agility.

It has a technical side to it and involves a lot of practice but once on the field the players decide what to do.  People have roles to fill but they're not robots and have to adapt to the situation.  There is a flow to the game that requires thinking on your feet.

There's more thinking going on than you might think at first glance.

The comaradarie is also a fine aspect.  There are many physically violent sports out there but the culture of rugby is that you leave all that violence on the field and then go have a beer WITH the OPPOSING team and have a good chuckle about it.

  16. love it....

    Go wallabies...

  17. c**p sport

  18. hahaha, rugby, egg-chasing, the greatest sport on the planet?!?!?!  hahahaha, that's like saying stephen jones is fast or gareth thomas is straight, it's complete bollox!  i mean, watching grown men time after time after time (i believe you call it phases) pick up the ball, run one step forward just to be buried so that the ball can come back for another dull b*stard to do exactly the same!!!  talk about job satisfaction - it's akin to dropping eggs from a 50ft high building and hoping they don't break

  19. Love and marriage

  20. I LOV3 the hot boys!  "Sonny Bill"
