Question:

Why do Yahoo! Sports writers keep bashing De La Hoya?

I've been reading the columns on De La Hoya today, and I can't get over how the Yahoo! Sports writers make it seem as if Oscar was just a big kid that pushed Forbes over, but won't be able to take Mayweather on. I guess what really angers me is the fact that they make it seem as if Mayweather beat the c**p out of him last fight. Saying things like "He has a long way to close the vast gulf between them" and such things. I mean, seriously, the fight last time was extremely close! So close that most people I know would say that Oscar should have been declared victor! With the technique he's working on, and the fact that he's working with a trainer that's he's really close to and comfortable with, I would say that Oscar's on a road to a victorious rematch. I dunno...I'm beginning to question the competence of these writers.

  1. Im glad you brought this up because i wonder if these guys even watch the fights. DLH lost his fight more then Mayweather won it because DLH stoped useing his jab and the fight really could have gone anyway and there wouldnt even have been a fight if DLH didnt press him.

And weather Oscar wins or loses his big fights i could at least respect the man for getting in the ring with all the big names and coming forward in them  to give us a show. Unlike like other fighters (YOU KNow WHO Im Talking Bout) who avoid the top competitors (Mosley,Winky,Margarito,Cotto) and move circle backwards in there fights.

  2. de la hoya is overrated...he can't win big fights...

forbes match is supposed to be just a glorified sparring match and he couldn't make himself look good then either...

  3. In my opinion Cotto is the top contender to fight Mayweather.  There are two reasons that Cotto will probably not get the chance he deserves to fight mayweather.  The first is that mayweather makes more money fighting De La Hoya.  The second is that Cotto is too strong and Mayweather is not sure he can beat him.  I don't know about the yahoo writers but it pisses me off that De La Hoya gets to fight the best boxer in the world when there could be much better matchups.  I like to watch good fights and De La Hoya Mayweather is not a good fight.  I don't think it was really that close last time, I think the judges did a poor job scoring it.  Mayweather is not going to take many more fights and I doubt he will ever fight Cotto.  I think it is a shame that one of his last fights will be wasted on a washed up Oscar De La Hoya.

  4. Four reasons why Yahoo! Sports writers dog ODLH:

    1.  Oscar has NO meaningful wins since before 2000.

    2.  Oscar, despite being competitive, CAN'T win a big fight.

    3.  Forbes had NO business taking a fight with Oscar, yet Oscar could not put him away.

    4.  Oscar is 8-5-0 in his past 13 fights.  No one in boxing with that type of record over their past 13 fights deserves to be in a championship fight, much less against the best fighter in the toughest division.

Say what you will about Forbes never being KO'd- if Oscar can't KO Forbes, he has NO chance to KO May.  Mayweather is possibly the best defensive boxer in the game.  Oscar won't KO May, and May is much quicker than Oscar.

Oscar is almost always competitive (except the Hopkins fight), but he CAN'T win a big fight.

The first fight was great, no question, but Oscar didn't get the decision.  Was it close? Absolutely! Was Oscar robbed? Absolutely not.  Had the decision gone to Oscar, I would have said that May was not robbed- that is how close it was.

Now Oscar is a year older, and a year slower.  Mayweather proved in his fight with Hatton that he can do a lot more than dance around the ring.  The gap between Mayweather and ODLH is getting bigger, not smaller.  Oscar had to pick a fight with a guy who LOST on a reality TV show to look good.

In Sept. we will see if Oscar can do the improbable.

  5. Mayweather-De La Hoya fight was not close like everyone says it is, but it wasn't a landslide loss either. The reason being is that, Forbes was a champion at 130! and even then he had little power. Why would anyone consider him to be a tough oponent for Oscar? De La Hoya should have fought someone in the top ten Welterweights instead of like #35... Tis win meant nothing other than Oscar wasn't stron enough to hurt a much smaler guy that was easy to catch. Mayweather won't be easy to catch, and Mayweather has been officially Knocked Down once! and that was cause he broke his hand, the othe fighter didnt even touch him! And Oscar doesn't deserve a to skip over every other welterweight.. He should fight other top welterweights like Cotto or Margarito before he should even consider taking on the best in the world
