Why do a lot of men down Lifetime TV/movies?...

Question

A number of men over the years esp relatives have told me they don't understand women watching Lifetime movies because it's usually about an abusive man, or some other bad thing but then THEY go and watch a movie about a serial killer or a Jason type movie or some other movie where people are being murdered! Please tell me the difference!

To me MOST Lifetime movies are like a scary movie that I know will have a happy ending. Some I refuse to watch because I can't handle the subject matter but that's true of many movies across the board. So men please explain how Lifetime movies are any different than you men watching thrillers?

Because all the movies have an plot they show all the time and men are always in the same roles

the killer

the hot guy

or a wuss

My problem with them is that they are banal beyond belief. But that is true of pretty much every thing on the television, so I wouldn't personally single out Lifetime for special scorn. Anybody who watches more than a few hours of television a week has a serious addiction problem.

edit: I consider thumbs down from couch potatoes to be a badge of honor.

Well, horror movies are more fun because they are obviously not real. Movies about abusive people are based on reality. Makes them much scarier IMHO.

otherwise, the movies are of about the same quality, both are generally badly done :D

I don't like lifetime movies either.

I guess I just don't like the subject matter.  I'm more of a romantic comedy or a action/suspense girl myself.

Just for the record I don't really care for gory "saw" type movies either.  I try not to watch anything that makes me uncomfortable, whether it be a guy cutting his own leg off, or a woman being raped.. I'd prefer to be entertained.

I'm female and don't like Lifetime movies either. I don't even care for Lifetime network (I call them The All Men Are Pigs Network). The movies and shows tend to be boring, predictable, and the men all seem like feminised versions of the whomever wrote the script. I prefer physiological thrillers, old sci-fi, english comedy, spy movies, foreign movies and the like. ♥ ∞

Because they are directed toward women and often "Chick" flicks.  Their main characters are always nearly always women.  Come one, when was the last time you saw something blown up, a car chase or an unpredictable plot?  I will admit, I like them...I watch them.  But there is a reason they are "made of TV"...they would drowned in a typical theater.

Alot of men down Lifetime in general because men have limited roles in those movies. They are usually the love interest (if they are s**y) or the crazy "I"M GOING TO KILL YOU" guy.

Also the shows are geared towards married middle age women.

PBS is much better.

I prefer Oxygen over lifetime.

Since Lifetime callls itself "Women's Network" men aren't likely going to be overjoyed when a typical chick flick comes on :)

oh my husband is the same way. he says he dosent like all men (which i told him it snot all men, sometimes its crazy females too) being portrayed and rapists and such. he thinks its like a feminist channel dejecting men.

The difference is that they know that horror movies aren't real, and it's fun to be scared like that (for some people). Lifetime movies are a reflection of real life, albeit a poor one, and they reflect the same d**n thing over and over again.

Lifetime is "for Women."  Some men can't stand to be left out of anything.

More like, why not ?.... Basically it's a cable channel for broads that portrays the "all men are basically pigs" i.e. SEXIST approach. One might say its attitude parallels this forum in particular..  And with many other valuable, credible channels to view, I'm rather surprised it continues on the menu..

the movies are better on that channel then some of the movies being released in the movie theaters. The movies though focus on 1. Men as rapists or some sort of stalker or pycho 2. Kidnapping of a child or some other child issue. 3. Like soap operas dialogue unrealistic men dont talk like that. men aren't that romantic or chatty in real life it's a women fantasy. It's 2008 if some guy in real life is fantastically good looking they are not dating someone their own age they are dating someone much younger. It all lends itself into women fantasy. College kid women 50  year old sleeps with kid. Kid is a underwear model. She doesnt tell husband. Kid turns into Pycho No kid would ever sleep with an older lady . Unrealistic in every possible way but an excellent women fantasy.

Because they perpetuate victim-mentality and fear.

Titles like: "Mother, may I sleep with danger?"

Time can be better spent reading a book or watching PBS.
