Why do advertisers call it "bathroom tissue" or "bath tissue" in commercials? I've only ever heard it called "toilet paper" by everyday people.

  1. because it sounds posher

  2. They don't want to make it seem so common.

  3. It must be some sort of reluctance to use the word toilet over the air...presumably the Grannies out there, or people who are used to a less direct way of speaking, would be offended by the word toilet.

I remember a conversation where my ex mother in law pursed her lips when I said "pregnant" at the dinner table because she would have preferred "in the family way" [this was only about 20 years ago] and my ex father in law just looked at her and said, "oh grow up"!

    I think it's a generational thing.

Ironically, it makes me uncomfortable to see toilet paper manufacturers advertising that THEIR toilet paper is more absorbent, therefore making certain that we women are cleaner and drier in our hoohas. When I see the actresses with smug looks on their faces as they exit the bathroom, all I can think is, "she has a clean and fresh hooha!" and then I shudder in disgust.

  4. never heard that on a commerical

  5. it sounds more classey and sophisticated.

  6. Sounds better. Rather they call it S**t paper?

  7. Because it sounds nice and polite.

Whereas 'toilet paper' does kind of remind you of something you wipe yourself with.

It just sounds nicer and makes it easier to sell.

We all have to buy it but no one wants to be reminded of taking a c**p when they watch tv :)
