  1. adults have a fully developed body and brain and often more experience drinking more often so as a result most adults have a higher alcohol tolerance than most teenagers.

  2. I believe it has to do with the size of the person.

And since the adult's body is matured it can tolerate more then an child and or teenager who's bodies have not full developed yet.

I like to think of it like a black widow if one bites a child it is deadly do to the fact that the child's body is smaller and the poison has less traveling to do then a full grown man who will not die from a black widows bite.

This is what I believe the answer is. I'm sorry if I pointed you into the wrong direction. If I find a libel website or something like that I will try too notify you.

  3. Adults have more body mass and more mature brains.

  4. because an adult is enormous and children are tiny.

  5. probably because children and teenagers aren't 21 or older..

  6. Actually, younger people have the ability to remove alcohol from their system quicker than adults.  Younger liver, and they can produce more of the enzyme which converts alcohol (ultimately into acetic acid).

By "adult" I assume you mean someone under 60 but of course legal to drink.  As you get that old, alcohol is not well tolerated unless that person drank regularlarly, but not excessively.

When a person begins drinking, they have a low amount of the enzyme that begins the conversion into acetic acid.  As a result, they don't have to drink as quickly to get the same effect.  When you drink more often, that enzyme builds up and your body is anticipating that you'll drink alcohol.  When you do, it's removed more quickly.  The result is that person appears to tolerate the alcohol better.  They may have 4 drinks and not look it, whereas someone who never drank before would be drunk after 4 drinks.

But you don't need to be 21 to build up the enzyme.  You just need to drink.  Generally, we think of teenagers binge drinking and getting wasted, whereas adults have a couple drinks and call it a day.  That's just self-control.  The adult was previously that teenager, they have in all likely hood been very drunk and done something stupid, ended up puking and having lots of hangovers.  They just got tired of it, and stopped drinking that much.  That's just self-control, nothing to do with tolerance.  Although, I must say, that teenagers tend to get so drunk because when its illegal, there's an added little something to drinking... and the easiest things to come by are hard liquor.  It's painfully easy to drink a bit too much liquor.
