Why do adverts still appear in my browser when I disable images from loading?

I disabled images and any multimedia data from loading on IE7 and firefox 2. Even though all the images do not load, the advertisements (eg on yahoo mail) still appear. Do I need a seperate add-on to stop the ads from appearing?
