I know that some adoption agencies offer councilling and advice about adoption and fostering, but why training? I dont understand. What do you need trainning for? I can understand advice and counciling for all involved, but I have never understood the training side of it. Was just wondering. thanks in advance

  1. because they want to make sure that the people who are adoption really know what they're getting into. i read somewhere once that one of the biggest reasons for disrupting an adoption was...... bedwetting. yeah. scary, isnt it? i know someone who adopted a baby, and all while he was growing up they pawned him off on other people. some people think they want to be parents, and then find out the reality isnt what they imagined. the agencies just want to make sure that parents will commit to their children, and the child wont be separated from someone they have bonded with. and ALL adoptees will have some kind of issue, no matter what age they were adopted at.

personally i think even parents who have children by birth should have to have some sort of training.what harm would it do?

  2. I for instance would like to one day Adopt.. but haven't got any parenting skills.. I would welcome any training to prepare me in how to look after and bring up a child.. some who have quite severe problems.

    I do think it's a good thing.

  3. Our training focused on:

    Adoption process

Many reasons people come up for adoption

    Loss issues

    Attachement issues

Talking to adult adoptees and their experience

Talking to adoptive parents about their experience

Talking to mothers who placed their child for adoption and their experience

    Much much more.

Even for a newborn, you need to be armed with this information so you can make the correct decision, AND for the agency to assess your stance on adoption.  Where I took it, if there were signs you didn't take the attachment or loss issues seriously, that was a reason not to pass the homestudy.
