Why do all carbon footprint calculators never go below 1.2 ltr cars?

I have a 1 ltr engine in my car, surely this has a smaller carbon footprint than a 1.2 or 1.4 ltr engine?

  1. The  CO2 numbers must be too small to bother doing the calculations just dont bother to punch it in. You'll surely be over estimated if you go with "1.2 or lower" They will just use1.2 figures

  2. Well, smaller displacement doesn't always equate to less fuel burned.  A 1ltr turbocharged engine will burn more gas than a 1.4 ltr engine.  Without physical measurement or manufacturers/govt testing lab figures to compare you can't really tell if there is a significant difference at all.

  4. I always laugh at footprint "calculators."  I've never yet met one that is even close to predicting how my husband and I ACTUALLY impact the environment.

There's never a spot to check for "Do you produce your own biofuel from your own crops, on your own land?"

Nope...just the fact that we drive large vehicles (that have almost zero impact, since they are all at least 30 years old, some older, and use fuel we produce).

They also never have a spot to check for, "Do you ride your own horse, for transportation at time, which produces manure for your fields, and eats only crops you grow yourself, on your land?"

They also never have anyplace to check about people that practice food storage, and only grocery shop once or twice a year (titanic fuel savings there!), or people who raise their own meat animals, and butcher them themselves on their farm.  Zero industrial meat costs produced by us.

The calculators just want to know if you eat meat, not how you produce it.

Those calculators get even WORSE, when I punch in the house my husband and I are going to build.  That would be a 5000 sq ft straw bale house, with currrently only two people living in it.  No-place to take into account that we will actually be GROWING the straw right on our farm, and building it ourselves.  Or that it will be 100% of grid, and more energy efficient than 99% of the houses out there.

Carbon footprint caalculators are a joke, when you actually live an extremely earth friendly lifestyle that does not fall withing their terribly narrow choices.
