  1. Because we are allowed to drive that fast just not on public roads. And besides not all nations have speed limits everywhere

  2. All cars have reverse we all do not go backwards all the time

  3. because of the tires that came with the car originally, tires have a speed rating. this helps with insurance, safety and all that mess.

  4. cuz the car business is affiliated with the governemt. They want us to buy the fastest and biggest cars so the car industry can make money and then the government comes in and jacks up the gas prices and lowers the speed limit. The system is messed up

  5. Bragging rights.  Because it can.

  6. Each car is a bit different, but yes, most cars can easily drive over 100mph, and here's why...

If cars were designed to drive at a maximum of 80mph, we would get very bad gas mileage.  Cars therefore have a final gear, usually an overdrive, that is designed to have the ability to go really fast, but it won't have to work hard to drive at about 75mph.

Car companies will typically put "governors" (or speed controllers) on cars that have the ability to drive faster but are unsafe at their theoretical top speed.  For instance, many SUVs have a top speed of around 98mph, even though they could go much faster.
