Question:

Why do all poems and songs sound the same?

They're either "woe is me" depressing or bent out of shape about love. So average. They should write songs/poems about unique and interesting things. Things that would normally go unnoticed. Like fun and happy creative-artistic things. :) Has anyone noticed that?

  1. poetry is like rap it has rhyming, and a point to get across to the listener poetry and songs often consist of metaphors personification that all is the same

  2. Yes I noticed a lot of similar poetry.  I think it helps a lot of people express things that are on their minds,  a type of therapy.   I love to see people challenge themselves as writers and write things that are different,  but I'm older and when I was younger I went through the same woe is me and the world is very hard thing.  Writing like that helped me  find my voice.  I rarely express emotion in my poetry now.  Mostly I tell stories.  Here's a short one I wrote that's a little different.  It's about dieting.

      Cheating:

    Oh ice cream;

    I see you there

    leaning silently under

    the freezer lamp

    cold, proud, alone.

    take me somewhere safe;

    someplace where

    Atkins, South-beach, and Zone

    won’t find us.

    A place where we can touch

    and l**k without

    mirrors eyeing and

    scales judging.

    You are romantic ruin.

  3. It depends on what style of poetry that you are reading and what songs you are listening to. But to answer about the generalization on poetry and songs is simple mysery loves company. and all song writing and poetry is an expression of raw emotion and when most people write it is usually about anger or love , 2 of the strongest emotions

  4. Ahh, the ever popular lament with the shotgun blasting word "all".

    To start with, if you read more you will find that not ALL poems are "woe is me", nor are they "ALL" about love.

    Off the top of my head I can think of quite a few posted here over the past few days that dealt with a variety of subjects from Morning Confusion to a spoof on the Twelve Nights of Christmas, from a poem about finding expressive words to another about painted toenails, from children belching and puking to a birthday party for grandad and even suicide.

    Yes, there are an abundance of poems devoted to "woe is me" and various subjects relating to heart break and romance.  The romanace theme is popular for sure, it's also where a lot of folks learn to express themselves verbally.  Poetry is often thought of as the romantics voice for good reason.

    So, not ALL fit into your neat sterotype of poems.  Thus I reject your perception of reality and will consider anyone else's instead.

    Here's another thought,,, why not start writing your own verse ?

  5. cuz some songs are started from poems

    and again theres poetry called lyrical so yeah
