Why do all students from Africa introduce themselves to others as princes?

Many reasons--I didn't realize Amadou means "prince," and it's a very common name in west africa.  A prince can be the oldest son in a family, and tribes are small enough to have many princes.

At one time, there were hundreds of principalities in what is now Italy, and they all had princes as well.  Very confusing to be sure.

I´ve never heard that, but I know a LOT of gentlemen from Western Africa, whose names MEAN Prince.

Amadou, and Mamadou and variations of those...means, like Prince within the  family...a little like calling your baby girl "Princess," I suppose, except that it´s the given name.

I taught many African students, and not one introduced himself as a prince (or herself as a princess).  One was actually NAMED Prince, and another told me that his grandfather was a "village king," which I took to mean a chief.

why do you need to be rich to be a king?!  Money and titles do not always go together.  

That is a misunderstanding!  There are many subkingdoms throughout africa that exist today, however there are only 3 kingdoms on the national level.  These subkingdoms generally have no political power but can be quite influential in local politics and society.  They are not the same as the royal families of Europe or Asia, but are usually the leading family within a tribe.

Result of a huge inferiority complex. u see that in many A American made films where they show exaggerated snobbish characters.

This is not to say that all A Americans who r snobbish suffer from any complex. I am talking abt ratios.

Many tribes use the term to mean the only son,or the oldest son.Just as many cultures/religions refer to a male/son as a man child.We tend to believe that our way is the only way and that the ways of others are wrong/bad.The world does not start and stop with us.Good question.
