Why do all the dogs howl together?

I was in a rural area when suddenly, all the dogs howled together at night.

It happened quite frequently.

Do you know why?

they are pack animals just like wolves and they do that to communicate and establish where they stand in the pack.

It could be a social thing.

When you think about it, if you are out a few people start singing, then everyone else joins in.

Perhaps it is the same for dogs.
