  1. Some gain Muscle meaning gaining weight, so they go up. Some lose weight and go down, and some don't change, but they fight higher and lower classes to win. Being a featherweight and beating a welterweight is a big deal.

  2. There are several reasons. Some of the smaller guys may move up for bigger challenges or because they're simply having trouble making the weight that they were used to fighting at. Some of the bigger guys may drop just to meet a big name fighter at a catch-weight or because they may feel the bigger weight class is not for them. I could go on and on with reasons.

  3. b/c they simply get bigger and move up to the next challenge. for example mayweather, Jr won the title in 5 weight divisions.

b/c they are no longer able to make the lower weight class for medical reasons

b/c they can lose the weight but still have the power behind their punch of a bigger boxer and want the advantage

to meet the challenge of another boxer who called them out
