Why do ambulances take people from hospitals?

I went to dictionary.com. I searched Ambulance. It said that ambulances take ill or injured people to hospitals and from hospitals. I dont understand why ambulances take people from hospitals?

  4. I think that was reffering to back in the day when doc's made house visits.  And sometimes when your released you may still be sick.  Although you don't want to stay in the hospital.

  6. when ppl go to ospitals, they are usually unstable. ambulances are moving operation rooms so if the patient has a heart attack or something, it can be treated and they will have a better chance

Most of the time we take people from hospitals we are transferring them to another hospital for a higher level of care, such as a pediatric specialty, brain surgery, stuff like that, that wasn't available at the sending facility. we do sometimes take people back to nursing homes as well, sometimes a nursing home Pt can't just ride in a car, and have a medical condition the may need to be monitored. This is the same such case for taking people home with an ambulance.

    There are many cases that the sending facility abuses this, and actually commits medicare fraud by falsifying forms to show a medical necessity for the ambulance transport.

  18. It depends, if there in icu, but they want to die at home, it has the equipment to transport them to there home, after a hospice has been set up, they will also ransfer patients from a hospitial not equipped to handle them to one that is. (i.e. smalltown hospital to loyala)
