I'm sure this is not limited to Americans. Probably the privacy it allows is a reason. Not as comfortable as in bed but it is an option.

i doubt it's an american thing. i know many aussies who do it in the bathroom. i think it's about privacy and being easier to clean up. all you have to do is squirt in the shower/bath or in the toilet. very easy to clean. though i prefer to lie in bed and do it. :)

I would say it is private... but most do it in their bed...

because its a place where the bits and pieces are hanging out anyway.

The only time I m********e in the bathroom is when I'm in the shower. Most times I do it in my bedroom.

i m********e in bed when i wake up and go to sleep, but due to privacy (live with parents) i have to use the bathroom between those times so they don't suspect anything, i can't just lock myself in my bedroom before bed time.

it just a place to get some privacy... im sure its not just america, the bathroom(in the shower) is a place where you are naked, otherise the bedroom or the computer desk is a popular place to slap the turkey

Australians as well, i think any country that has bathrooms with locks is going to find a spotty little boy with his eyes screwed shut in there.

I didn't know it was an American thing.  I think it's because it's a place where you can expect to have some privacy.

Definately a privacy thing.  There are much more comfortable places like the bedroom if you are alone, thats for sure.  Shower is easy to clean up too!

I don't. In fact I hate doing it in the bathroom or in the shower. It's not an "american thing" btw. Some people jsut have large families and doing it in the bathroom is a good way not to get caught because no one will catch you in there.

I have my own home, so I any part of the place is fair game.  Usually, it's my bedroom or the computer desk :-)
