  1. Honestly this may not be the answer you're looking for but it's simply because most everything is relative.  I believe this is true for most all peoples and cultures.  Simply that if you're used to paying $3.00 a gallon and then the price quickly climbs to $3.69 ... well then, most people will "think" and feel that they're paying high prices.  And hey, for this example, they're right ... they ARE paying higher prices for gas / fuel than they were previously.

Now if somehow in Australia, you could buy a gallon of gas for $3.69 when you're used to paying $5.62 ... again, everything being relative, you'd "think" and feel like you'd be getting a bargain and probably either one of two things would happen.  Either you'd buy as much from where you bought it at that low price as you could or you'd definitely continue to come back there time and again as long as you could buy it at $3.69.  Again probably not the answer you were looking for but I think it does answer your question.

  2. Just because you're getting REAMED worse than us doesn't justify the outrageously priced gas. There is NO GAS SHORTAGE! However, there are greedy oil tycoons and IDIOTS that invest in oil futures that drive the prices up!

  3. Because Americans are more dependent on gas than anyone else, so it hurts them the most when prices rise.  They were also spoiled by having affordable gas for so many years.

  4. With all due respect, I don't live in Australia and you don't live in Arizona, so I don't care how much you pay for gas and how much I pay shouldn't concern you. I don't care if somebody in Europe pays $12 a gallon. I might if I lived in France or Germany, but I don't.

  5. We think our gas prices are high b/c the price of gas jumps up so drastically. It's hard when you're already living on a fixed income to have gas prices double. It hits you in the pocketbook hard.

  6. Is that 5.62 in Australian Dollars or USD?  Eh. Wouldn't make much difference with the exchange rate. Yeah, that's a LOT to pay for a gallon of fuel. I guess we don't have it so bad after all. I know a lot of Americans are oblivious to what people pay for gas in other countries. Maybe that's why we think we have it bad. Thanks for the eye opener.

  7. Everything is relative. This week I am paying $1.306/L and the minimum wage here is $8.10/hr and a dozen beer is about

    $20.00 depending on brand.

    What does 5.62 translate into?

  8. Maybe you ARE paying more than us, but just a couple years ago, we were paying little over a dollar. So I think we are justified in saying that our gas prices are high! Just because yours are high, does that mean no one else's can be? Yes, American gas prices are ridiculously high in comparison to just 2 or 3 years ago. I live in one of the biggest oil rich states, and have to pay OPEC prices. Anyway, yours are high, ours are high. The end.

  9. Because we are born with the right to have low gas price's in this country ( It says so on our birth certificate).

It's our right to get our fat *** in our bus sized SUV that gets 6 mpg and drive .5 mile to the store to buy a bag of chips and a soda. and nobody, has the right to take that away from us!  NOBODY!
