Question:

Why do animal shows have "I/E" on the screen corner? What does I/E mean on TV?

For over a year I've noticed many shows will have I/E in the right top corner without any explanation as to what that means or why it's there. Mainly I see it on animal shows such as Jack Hanna's but also seen it on some Sat. am kid shows, and even surfed and found it on some Mexican channels. What's up with that? I googled it but got nowhere. Thanks.

  1. It means informationl/educational. They put on certain shows because u can learn stuff from them

  2. You got it backwards...it's E/I (educational/informational).

It's commonly seen on kids' shows with some sort of educational content in them. That designation's been around since 1996, when new rules concerning children's television programming went into effect.
