  1. Most animals fear humans through ancestral memory, in which instinctive memories are passed down from an animal to its offspring without having to communicate the message, but just through instincts. For instance, most people are naturally afraid of things like bees or often bizarre or creepy looking insects/ animals, because by nature we have learned through our ancestors experience, that they are dangerous, and can harm us, thus we often learn to avoid them or kill them before they can harm us.

The same goes for animals, for instance, say decades ago, a pack of wolves were nearly driven to extinction do to men hunting them, that fear and memory of the pain, death and overall fear was likely passed down to that group's descendants, thus overtime teaching them that humans are dangerous creatures that can harm or kill them. But for some animals, they react in different ways, while most will turn tail and run, others will attempt to stand their ground till the inevitably bitter end.

So, to translate that simply, we are naturally a dangerous threat to animals, so naturally, they run away.
