Why should the United States send forces they dont have halfway across the world to get involved in a colfict between two countries whom they are allied? For the life of me I cant think of one compelling reason to even take a side in this.

  1. USA stuck their foot in it. You guys tried turning Georgia into a satellite state and were arming it up to threaten the Caucasus area.

USA was encouraging them to join NATO and sent advisers to help them attack Russian citizens and forces in South Ossetia.

If you don't defend them it will show all of the other states in the entire area that USA can not be trusted on its promises to defend its allies.

That means Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan etc, etc.

All those little oil rich countries you are so eager to exploit.

There is also the fact that by losing control over Georgia you lose control over the two major pipelines running north of Turkey and supplying Europe's energy needs.

  2. Georgia is an ally they have 4000 troops helping us in Iraq . Russia is not an ally. But I agree with you , let`s just close our eyes and turn our heads and not worry about any thing going on in the world until it knocks at our door , like 9/11 , you know or something like that, Why should we care about other human beings on this planet of ours? Hitler would have loved our way of thinking , don`t you agree?

  3. Russia/US relations have gone downhill in the last few years.  Georgia is an ally, but don't look for troops from the US showing up.  Russia has nukes.

  4. I think it is OK to help Georgia.  The Ruskies have been helping our enemies for eternity.  They have even built and supplied Irans nuke plant.

  5. The only reason I could see is if you want to start WWIII.

The US is not going to send any troops there - nor is NATO or any other coalition.  Not doing anything may even result in less bloodshed than sending in peacekeepers and prolonging the conflict.  In reality the US isn't even in a position to send anyone there even if they wanted to.  With Iraq and Afghanistan already on the plate (and the tensions with Iran) it would be a real stretch of military and financial resources.

  6. Yes , Why do anything about a powerful country like Russia ?

where as deeds in Afghanistan and Iraq are still "half measures",

yes USA is not so brave as you thought of it.
