  1. Because all colors are affected by surrounding objects and their color. Painting the reflections ties the painting together and gives it a more realistic and dramatic feel instead of that flat and patch work look. Your art project is probably more of a study in learning to see how object/s relate to each other and their surroundings. My art can be checked out at hellosanantonio.com under artist name GUERRO1.

  2. A reflection is light and light bouncing off objects occurs in nature. An artist paints reflections because they happen. Objects near water reflect the colors and shapes of those objects. Water is usually painted a blue color which is a reflection of the sky above, but we all know water has no color.

Reflections are very much like shadows. An artist chooses the direction light is coming from in the painting and paints the shadows in the appropriate locations.

  3. If the subject has water or mirrors or other shiny surfaces you paint the reflections because they are a part of what is there. Think how strange it would look to paint someone sitting in front of a mirror without their reflection showing :-)
