Why do asians grab their ears/ear lobes while being yelled at?

I could be generalizing but I was watching some old-school Kung Fu movies and noticed that it happens quite frequently. Mostly what i've seen is males do it alot. I have never seen it done in real life.

I'm guessing if they were in old school kung fu shows then the point is discipline? Maybe the point for this was to hear what the person is saying clearly. =/
