Why do atheists say the Bible has silly stories WHEN...?

.... IF God is real, and if he is all powerful, he can do whatever he wants?

If God created the entire UNIVERSE, if he created space and time, why would it be hard for him to make a donkey talk or make a staff turn into a snake to eat the snakes that came from staffs that were transformed by the devil?

I have faith and it doesn't matter if these events are metaphors or literal, BUT I am perfectly prepared to believe they were historical events because I have faith.

Plus, certain things in the Bible are OBVIOUSLY metaphors.

The Tower of Bable is more than obviously a metaphor. Languages did not being with God changing them in one day. That was a metaphor.

It is clear that story was NEVER meant to be literally true.

So, if God is all-powerful, how can it be hard to believe he can do the things in the Bible WHEN he is all powerful?

  1. Let me see, the tower of balel must be a metaphor but someone born of a virgin who later raises dead people and himself is literal? You should be intellectually honest and apply the same logic to everything.

FYI none of the bible was meant to be literal. At the time of writing everyone knew it was just stories. Jesus was the greatest metaphor of all, and his disciples invented him to see who would get it.

  2. Those super-natural events still sound ridiculous.

And to quote you "it doesn't matter if these events are metaphors or literal, BUT I am perfectly prepared to believe they were historical events"

This makes absolutely no sense. You are accepting them as literal whether they are literal or not. Sounds like you are missing the message of the metaphorical ones and you don't care.

  3. If a talking buning bush, a talking snake and a talking donkey aren't silly, then nothing is.

  4. please tell us all, which stories  are metaphors and which are historical facts.

please do this for the entire contents of the bible with evidence to back up your answers.

then i might take you seriously.

  5. If your god were all powerful why couldn't he have holy book that wasn't so open to interpretation.

Whats the tower of Babel a methaphor for?  God doesn't want people to work together? God doesn't want people to build really tall buildings?  People in this question seem to think it was true http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?... so how is obviously a metaphor?

Is the Noah's Ark story a historical fact or a metaphor?  Bearing in mind there's no evidence of a world wide flood.  Yet people keep lying about finding the ark

  6. our faith is something that is hard to explain esp to nonchristians or should i say atheist...

  7. If you believe in an all-powerful god, all you have to do is prove his/her/its existence. Should be simple if god is all-powerful. However, as there is ABSOLUTELY NO credible, verifiable, tangible, concrete evidence anywhere or anyhow, what other magical bunnies do you have in your top hat?

  8. You are mistakenly implying that God is real. He isn't.

  9. Didn't you already ask this question ? Why don't you believe that Zeus can cast lightning bolts at people ?

  10. Do you even listen to yourself? Christianity is the reason people become atheists, because of all the false BS your religion spews, people begin to think God isn't real

  11. I agree with you 100%. If God can create anything, or the universe, who is to say that there is anything God can't do!

I also agree with you about the faith thing. Even if there is something in the Bible that isn't explainable easily with science, I still believe it as truth or historical fact.

But one thing I noticed, you said you think the tower of babel was a myth. The bible really doesn't indicate it as a parable, and I believe it was true.

Think about this, when they people had one language, there was no stopping them. They actually were smart back then too (look at stone hedge or these other buildings), except for the fact that the reason they built babel was to worship a false God.

So God scattered them on the earth, and confused the language because of it.

This is true, and proves true today. We are becoming the new babel. Language is no longer a barrier issue, even right now I can type something and go to altavista babel and translate it into almost any language I want. People can communicate with anyone all over the world.

Anytime you have some incredible communication like this, look at what happens. technology and information starts to EXPLODE! Cloning, computers, GPS, electronic banking...

Babel was the one time in history when a large group of people came together to worship a false God & build a tower reaching into the sky in his honor. And now, the same thing is happening with our technology. There is no stopping us brilliant humans now. Kinda makes you think the antichrist & end is coming within the next few hundred years or so huh!

  12. first your saying god is all powerful and if your always a crackhead to believe that anything if possible to you fundies

  13. Fair enough.  So why doesn't this magic man appear today, or perform miracles today?  Could it be that we, as a society, are just a little less gullible to wild stories and tricksters pulling rabbits out of hats?  Or maybe he's afraid of being thrown up on YouTube?

Face it, there isn't, and never was, a god.  That explanation makes everything make sense.

    Elegant.

  14. if, if, if, if, if, if

    You're full of iffin's

  15. How powerful can God be if he can't get the religions to agree on God? Religious violence occurs because the  religions can't agree on God.

  16. How can something be more than obvious?

We don't believe in God. God is not real. God did not do those things.

  17. so, WHERE'S THE PROOF?  We have proof of other historical things, so where the proof of god?

  18. Let me ask you something since you have so much faith. I own a donkey, and god made him talk, you wanna know what he said? He said that you should send me half of your paycheck every week. Are you gonna do it? Probably not.

My whole point is that when it inconveniences you, then common sense kicks in. But when you wanna believe that a magical man is offering a paradise world, you'll believe anything. Having faith is good, if what you have faith in helps you benefit the world.
