Why do aussies call it football? Is it because they want to be American?

Why do Americans call their game "Football," it would make more sense to call it "Throw Ball."  In Aussie Rules, there is a kick every few seconds of play - in American Football, the guy who kicks it isnt even on the field most of the time!

Why would an Aussie want to be a loud mouthed yank?we call it football because we KICK the ball the whole game,unlike your American THROW BALL or football as you call it-so typical that an American would think others would want to be like them,sorry to disappoint you mate but the rest of the world are quite happy being them selves.

also nob,gridiron is only an American rip off of the great game of rugby which countries around the world play today and even have a world cup,gridiron has been around in its primitive form since 1880 where as the first recorded game of Aussie rules was 1858-so let me ask you IS IT YOU GUYS THAT WANT TO BE AUSTRALIAN? or maybe Americans want to be English seeing as all the sports you play were ripped off English sports.

Actually we call it Aussie Rules Footy you should watch it sometime real men play it and dont need padding to play also  I can assure  you wont find an Aussie that wants to be yank except maybe John Howard.

Another thing give us a few more years in the World cup and we will even beat Brits at your game soccer just like the cricket we are bit sports mad over here.

No its not. Any ball sport that involves using feet and a ball has the possibility to be called football. Australian football (or Aussie rules as we like to call it) is, i guess, sort of like our version of football, just as Americans have American Football and Canadians have Canadian football.
