Why do bartenders tap an empty liquor bottle before throwing it away?

well at bartending school there realy is a bartending school, they learn tocheck the bottle to make sure it wont break in the trash and hurt some body or rip the bag

I believe you may be seeing them tap the bottle with a bar blade to remove the very small label that the state Alcoholic Beverage Commission makes wholesalers put on bottles that sell to bars/restaurants.

In TX, failure to remove the T.A.B.C. label off an empty bottle will get your bar fined big time.

The label helps the state control the tax amount for the bar/restaurant.
