  1. Two reasons, like everyone else has said up here. 1.) Takes more time to slide as opposed to just running through it. 2.) You can over-run the base and still not get tagged out.

  2. 1st base is the only bag you can overrun. People usually slide into bases to avoid a tag or avoid having to slowdown in fear of overrunning the bag.

  3. Because 1st base is the only base you can run past and still be safe.

  4. because in baseball you can overrun firstbase. the point of sliding into second or third base or home plate is because you want to avoid a tag and also break down your speed so that you dont overrun the base and get tagged out

because you can run past first base its more beneficial to the runner to run through the base, where as sliding would slow down the runner and make it easier for the runner to get thrown out at first base

  5. Players usually slide into the other bases to stop their momentum and avoid a tag.  This is not the case at first.  Since you can get to the base faster by running through and not sliding, it is better not to slide at first.

  6. Because growing up most baseball player are not allowed to slide into first base. It`s against the rule in most baseball games involving youths. Some states allow it but most states don`t.

  7. everybody else is right, but if a player ever figures out a way to steal first base, i bet a lot more will be sliding!!!! lol

  8. You can overrun first base and still not be out.  You can't do the same for the other bases.  If you run past the base, they can tag you out.  Players slide in so they can stop on the base and avoid a tag.

  9. You can over run first base and still be safe as long as you don't turn towards second base.  You actually slow down when you slide.  The slide is so hopefully you can avoid a tag and don't over run the base.

  10. Well you can overrun first base and still be safe.

  11. Because they are allowed to run thru first and still be safe.  They must slide into and keep contact with the 2nd and 3rd bases in order to not get tagged out.

  12. There is ALWAYS a force out at 1st & you can "run past" as long as you don't "make a move" towards 2nd base

  13. technically you can steal 1st, on a dropped third strike. Besides, sliding is slower than running. so u run to first as fast as you can and slides are used to avoid tags and stop momentum
