  1. It is an instinct instilled in them from birth.  It is not an indictation of happiness, strength, or how good a breeder it will be-- just that it's most likely a male.  Some will never blow bubbles in the best of conditions, while others will in the scummiest bowls.

  2. Not all bettas species do, but the Betta splendens, which is the one sold in almost every pet store that sells fish, does.

    1.  To provide a place to lay their eggs.  Doing this provides shelter from birds and other predators.

    2.  Shade or insulation for the eggs and newly hatched fry.

These Bettas are surface dwellers.  The way their eyes are set it's easier to watch their eggs above them than to keep an eye on eggs on the bottom.

  3. because they want to be ready when a female comes along they have to have a place to put the eggs when they mate with the female

  4. They are probably getting ready for some eggs.^.^, It should be explained if you have females around? Look for Betta Breeding on Google, should help you ALOT.

  5. it means that they are happy and could be a sign that they are ready to breed.
