  1. In the wild, hamsters are solitary. They see other hamsters as food. Since they have not been domesticated for very long, they still act much like their wild ancestors even though they are raised in captivity. The Syrian hamster is completely solitary and will show it's dominance by killing the weaker opponent.

  2. small hamsters get along with other hamsters better than grown ones. if ur big one has lived alone it may not want another hamster in the cage.

  3. The main reason why bigger hamsters pick on the little ones is because they are asserting their dominance. They try to be the commander and the boss. I had 3 drawf hamsters and 1 syrian . One of my bigger dwarfs always picked on the little ones. Its just what they do. Dont worry becuase they also can be playfighting . which most of them do If there is blood seperate them.

  4. its either trying to be leader or get the other hamster to leave so he can have his own territory. sometimes this "picking" turns into fights and they can/will try to kill each other. so be careful if u have two(size doesn't matter). after awhile, hamsters will fight no matter what the size or age for territory and this could even be a way of mating, but if one doesn't like it, they could kill each other. if u have two, put them in separate cages.

  5. big hamsters "pick" on smaller ones because they are asserting their dominance. you've heard about alpha males and alpha females, right? it's that sort of idea. the hamster is trying to ascertain it's place within a pack of hamsters or even with just one hamster.
