Why do bikers where shoe covers?

Even in the summer, so obviously not to keep their feet warm. Why?

  1. because the shifter can sometimes scuff sneakers,boots,shoes!

    ahhh ok....so they're feet stay firmly planted in position.


  2. I dont bicycle, haven't since I was 15.

    However, just a guess here - to keep their shoelaces out of the chain, maybe? I know it happened to me (laces in chain) on my crummy little BMX bike way back when. Probably even easier to do with all those gears and teeth on a mountain bike.

  4. Bugs: yes.....they CAN fly low to the ground....and splat mess up your shiny biker boots, while you breeze glide down the road or highway.

  5. In races - they wear them for aerodynamic purposes, plus they just look slicker...
