Why do bottled water taste worst than tap water?

I DONT KNOW Y PEOPLE WOULD BUY BOTTLED WATER.. CUZ ITS JUST FROM THE TAP  THATS ALL IT IS.. WITH THE NAME AND MARKETING U THINK UR BUYING FRESH WATER FROM THE MOUNTAIN OR WAT EVER..

Bottled and tap water taste different because there are minerals added to bottled water. Also, the plastic bottles that bottled water is stored in leech over time (the plastic mixes with the drink) so that also contributes to the taste.

That depends on whether or not you have crappy tap water. Otherwise bottled water has all this stuff add to take the bad stuff out so sometimes it just tastes disgusting.

where i am at, the essence is  different and if you drink the tap water you'll get sick or gerd.

Actually I have to disagree with the general consensus.  Bottled water is filtered to the point of having virtually no beneficial trace minerals at all.  That's what gives water its taste.  I talked to an engineer at Sun Micro systems recently about my existing home water filter.  I liked my filtered tap water much better than bottled water.  and he said their have been studies showing the shortcomings of bottled water and that now water filter companies have had to change what the filter out to allow the beneficial trace elements to pass through our home water filters.  because of health concerns to the general public of having water void of those elements.  Lastly lets not forget most of us who grew up before bottled water got fluoride fortified water from the tap.  (healthy teeth)  Now kids grow up taught to fear tap water = no more fluoride.  below is an interesting read about water consumption that agree with.
