Why do boxers have to wear some big boxing gloves?

Seems like a lot of padding, which would take away from the impact of one's knuckles smashing another's forehead.

Boxers have to wear gloves for protection of their opponent and themselves, but some fools play about with gloves with serious consiquences, look up Luis Resto, cheated.. but was discovered. Boxers live Floyd Mayweather Jr. have to wear big gloves because they have very brittle hands, or can get harmed very easily!

Because if they didn't their opponents would die. Do you know how hard a professional boxer can hit? Hard enough to take off your head.

Because the object of the sport is to KO your opponent, not kill them.  If these guys can KO one another with the gloves, imagine what they would do without them.

If you have ever seen some of the ancient footage of bare knuckle contests, they were actually really boring, because guys were shy about throwing punches because they were worried about getting hit back.
