Why do boxers rub their noses alot when they are fighting?

i've noticed that boxers seem to spend alot of time rubbing their noses while they ar fighting and i would like to know why

Sometimes it is to check and make sure that they are not bleeding, but other times it is because by touching their nose, their hand is front of their face and therefore it is blocking punches that would be coming straight.  For many fighters it is also a habit that they do to reassure themselves (such as Allan Green constantly looking at his feet).
