  1. To make sure they've left their brains at home.  ^..^

  2. I do it as of a way to check myself and make sure my hands are up, because throughout a fight my hands gradually lower so i have to keep reminding myself to keep them up.

  3. To adjust their gloves (I guess).

  4. Do you mean when they tap there forehead with there glove? It's a habit that one develops through sparring and amateur matches. Sometimes the protector that they use for their head tips down and it gets in the way of the boxer's vision. A boxer has to tap it with there glove to put it back in place. They soon develop the habit of tapping it every once in a while during a match so it wont get in the way of there vision. Its a habit that i have developed as well through out my amateur matches.

  5. to tell themselves to do something. Such as keep their hands up or remember to counterpunch, stuff like that.

My honors english teacher told me that a small tap on your forhead actually helps your thinking. I don't know if there is truth to it or not, although.
