Why does a boxing commentator always use the word "body" do describe where a boxer is being punched? Why do they never use the words "gut" "belly" or "stomach" since more often than not that is where they are being punched?

  1. I  assume that they can't get a clear view of where they are getting hit

  2. they do sometimes use those words. Just saying body to describe a larger area is much easier though when describing a fight b/c it is quicker to say body as opposed to other words

  3. Primarily because you can also be hit in the chest, on the sides and even in the back, even though that's illegal.   Those can also be called body punches

To just say body is a little quicker for the announcers and since the boxing is up close to the television camera, you can see that the punch hit the stomach.
