Why do boys bikes have the bar in the middle and girls do not?

The bar that goes from under the seat to right under the handle bar. Had someone ask me and I dont know why.

  1. This question has been asked at least 3,000 times. Long ago it was because girls wore dresses and boys wore pants....

    But in today's bikes, you can't tell them apart. That is with the serious bikes.


  2. actually women's racing bikes have the same design as men's.  the only difference is the top tube is shorter in proportion to the seat tube length.  the ladie's style frames you are talking about are cheap department store bikes.  it is left over from when women wore dresses and the bar was lowered to allow them to ride in those dresses.  however those frames are very flexible and ineffecient.  women racers would never ride one of those things.
