  2. Bubbles have rainbows for the same reason that clouds do, as light travels through the bubble it changes direction because it's moving at a different speed in the bubble.

    Different wavelengths (colours) of light move at different speeds inside the bubble so they all change direction a different amount  and appear to spread out, creating a rainbow.

    As for why "scientists" "study" bubbles. People research all kinds of things, for all kinds of reasons. Just because you read that research has just shown that most people sit down to do a poo (A recent story in a London paper) doesn't mean that all people with technical backgrounds spend their lives looking into the bleeding stupid and obvious. It usually means that a toilet roll company has commissioned them to do so to gain publicity.

    On the other hands - bubbles are in many ways fascinating. A beautiful example of surface tension, the way bodies develop in low gravity environments, light paths through objects of different opacities etc. and there may well be life changing reserch being conducted as we speak.
