Question:

Why do bugs splatter on windshields?

Aren't cars aerodynamic enough for them to be swept up and over the windshield by the air current? Whenever I see wind tests with smoke, the path of air curves neatly over the windshield. I've had other debris (lighter than rocks) fly towards me and pass safely above me. And if you drive quickly on a snowy day, all of the snow avoids sticking to the glass.

Why don't bugs get swept up in the current and safely away from a gooey demise?

  1. That's a good question!  Perhaps it is because they're just as aerodynamic as the car and it is easier for their little insect bodies to shoot straight through the car's.... aerodynamic shield...  Does that make sense?

  2. bugs splatter on the windsheilds because they are emo and they want to die. understand rubber band? marvelous. my work here is done, latuhhhh.

  3. This is a physics lesson, relating to mass, velocity, aerodynamics, and wind drag.

  4. its simple really. the bugs and their civilization have had a international bug meeting and have to decided that they will take over the world by suicide on the human race's windsheilds. Enough buildup of them would cause the blindness of the human race causing their cars to crash. Then the bugs would go and sting all the survivors until they are all dead. The bugs would then create their own cities and not need to be scared of being swatted or zapped by the humans.

  5. Not all bugs do, just the little Evel Kneivel bugs. They are daredevils playing chicken with cars. But they only have the guts to do it once.

  6. The bugs can fly perpendicular towards your vehicle so as they approach each other, if the bug doesn't fly faster, it gets hit. I saw it happen to a dragonfly even!

  7. A bug is flying in the air and when your driving and the bug crosses your path the weight of the bug causes it to hit the windshield. If you watch before it hits it is lower then starts going up and SPLAT! LOL I watched a big nasty ugly bug today raise up and go to the right and I thought it was gonna clear the jeep but it hit the framing of the car around the windshields It hit so hard I had to look to make sure there was no dent.
