Question:

Why do bumblebees hover?

Lately I've noticed that in the exact same 2 foot radius in both the front and back yard every day there is a bumblebee.

ALL day.

EVERY day.

And they both just hover about 2 feet off of the ground in the same spot every single day. Occasionally they buzz around the yard, but then come right back to the same spot. I can watch them while I am working, and I know it is just one bee in each spot...

I have looked this up, but found no information. Why do they do this?? I can't think of a single, logical, scientific explanation for it.

  1. There are insects who attract mates by claiming a spot in midair and defending it against all intruders, but I don't believe the bumblebee is such an insect.

    It's quite mysterious.

  2. bumblebees?

    perhaps not.

perhaps a more sophisticated being disguised as a bumble bee is spying on you.

I would be terrified if i were you.
