Why do cars and pickups not have bumpers that protect the vehicle from damage?

I have a dodge Ram and in the snow and ice, I slid at about 2miles an hour into a small tree. $6000 damage. why? Older trucks would have not had any damage except a scratched bumper. It seem the car manufacturers want as much damage as possible. Crumple zones are fine if a real bumper cannot protect the occupants. where did the doors with I beams in them go? Like Wal*Mart, car and truck manufacturers are selling JUNK also.

  1. People want better gas mileage so the make vehicle with less weight and not to take anything away from Dodge trucks but I have worked on many of these where the same thing has happened and the center will collapse, cause the two side bracket to bend in and the grill, hood, bumper, moldings, valance and doors to buckle.
