  1. thats a good question id like to know myself. kinda makes the laws seem very stupid and hypocritical.

  2. Marketing.

  3. That's pretty obvious to most people the reason why the car manf. do this is do you can try to make the speedodometer go past the limit I have done this 3 times (155, 155 and 135) the times i went 155 mphs the speedodometer went to 160 1994 mazda rx7 twin turbo brand new, the time i went 135 the speedodometer only went to 100 but the needle went pass park, low, reverse etc up past 0 and into 20mph 1997 chevy monte carlo yipieeeeee i love going fast we need to open up a autobaun with no limits beep beeep

  4. because if a car was only registered to go the speed limit, nobody would buy them.

  5. THANK YOU. I have been asking that forever. U rule! If cars could only go say 35. Everyone would have to do 35. Less tragic deaths, no high speed chases, I mean c'mon. I have no answer to this but it's like saying. "We have a cure for all these deaths and accidents but we don't use it".

  6. So you'll think the car is cool, and buy it. Seriously.

  7. So you can brake the LAW and they can FINE YOU!!

  8. because many cars get sold overseas where there is a different or no speed limit.

  9. Because car makers never know where trends will go.  How do they know when they make a car that 140mph won't be allowed on some road in 10 years?  They don't. So they put it there so the car won't become dated by it's limitations.

  10. Some roads, such as the Audobahn in Germany, do not have speed limits. There are also roads like that in many other European countries

  11. Just because it's illegal doesn't mean it won't happen.

Just because you aren't supposed to do it doesn't mean the car won't go that high.

  12. Well, sometimes there are legitimate reasons to exceed the speed limit, and you'll still want to know how fast you are going when you do it.

Also, it's a good marketing tactic--it helps to sell the car. Some prospective buyer sees that and thinks, "hey, this must be a pretty powerful car if the speedometer is marked all the way up to 140!"

  13. Because on some roads it isn't illegal....

  14. Because the cars could end up in other countries where the speed limit is different.

  15. its for selling points. But you can take your car onto a speedtrack and test it out at those speeds

  16. You might need it while passing slower moving vehicles.

  17. So you can confirm your high score with the cop's radar gun! LOL

  18. In case there's an emergency to evacuate the state.

  19. Just because you're limited by law, it doesn't mean the car is. I've recently come back from Germany and many hours well into three figures on the autobahn.  Now our 70mph max feels a little tame, but quite understandable considering the lamentable ability of a lot of our drivers . . .

  20. nice question

HA HA... it's up to the driver to break the law or not

plus the cops need something to do when they're bored... LOL

watch them pull me over later... my kind of luck.........
