  1. They don't always fight. Most dogs and cats that do have aggression toward each other were never raised around each other, so instinctively they will fight, or simply avoid each other. It really depends on how the owner raised them to act around one another.

  2. They don't.

Dog/cat households are extremely common, and it's not normal for them to fight.  Control the dog's behavior and you eliminate the problem.

  3. They dont. My dog gets along fine with my cats. But all dogs have a basic hunting instinct, and cats happen to be just the right size to chase down. Cats also tend to be skittish and run from dogs, hence activating the chase instinct. Its just the natural way of things. :)

  4. they usually do because they aren't use to being around cats[history wise] they weren't bred together so they see them as different and their instinct comes in but some dogs are okay with cats and other animals like sheepdogs or dogs that live on farms are use to being around other different animals and in that case they are familiar with seeing the other animals

  5. My neighbor has cats and dogs and they never bother each other. I have a dog and when he goes outside he never bothers their cats either.

  6. instinct! but of course, like everyone has already said.. not all of them fight (just the majority)

  7. Obviously, they don't always fight.  The reason many of them do fight is dominance.  They want to show who is the alfa-male/alfa female.  It's all territorial and and dominant status.
