  1. Hi Lauren... cats have scent glands along their tail, base of their tail, on each side of their head, on their lips, chin, near their s*x organs, and between their  front paws. They use these glands to scent mark their territory. When a cat rubs you or objects (doorways, furniture, etc), they are essentially marking you with their  scent, claiming you as "his/hers."
