Why do celebrities get all that attention and all that love when they are just doing their job

I have always wondered that. Acting is just a job like any other , yes you get to be on tv where the whole world can see you , but why should i go crazy over them just because your job is obvious ? i mean when they are performing they are " in a fake role " is not even their real personality and yet they are most loved for almost everyone. What bothers me about this is that somewhere an environmental engineer is making sure that the water you drink and bath in everyday is safe enough so that you dont die because of toxins that reside in the water. I feel concerned when people dont pay attention to things that matter , really important technological and scientific discoveries and advances are made everyday but still people will know more about britney spears life than about what is happening in the world right now . i even feel a little ashamed that im asking a question about this. What do you think the media focus so much on celebrities to the point that even shows are made after them? do you think it is part of a major conspiracy ?

  1. Not a conspiracy, just marketing. Celebrity SELLS, which is why they are portrayed, to sell more (papers, TV watching time, cars, whatever...). It is what is, which is why baseball players, even mediocre professionals, get paid more than Jonas Salk or Alfred Sabin - weird, huh?

  2. Because the media has nothing better to cover. There's "nothing great" going on in our country right now (the us) so they'd rather idolize these celebrities, and take their pictures non stop. It's a little pathetic if you ask me.

We're an "easy to please" society. We'd rather look at skinny models than skinny children that are dying. It's sad I know, but it's how the media is.

Same with the "War in Iraq" it's all overplayed on the news, they don't tell you what's ACTUALLY happening, just that "5 people have died today" and that's it. Nothing about the progress, or what the Iraqi's have to say about it.

Gotta love the Good ol' U S of A.

  3. When I'm not thirsty, I like to be entertained.

I'm going to take my favorite actor to be entertained over an environmental engineer.

Unless he has a spectacular repertoire of jokes possibly relating to and the consumption of water, I'm not interested.

Those who are good at entertaining are praised, comics, magicians, actors, actresses, and music artists alike.

Though either way, the guy who's cleaning my water better be d**n good at it.

I appreciate the people who do their jobs, as everyone should appreciate each other for being a productive member of society, I suppose it's the matter of who you can see to make you enlightened/entertained.

Edit:Scarlet, your pessimism will be the downfall of the whole.
