  1. i dont think all christians believe thats how old the world is. i am a christian. i think that number is if you talk the bible's time table, but i think they measured time differently than we do now.

  2. Because that's when they say it was created. I don't really know how they get that number because its not scientifically possible but that's what they say to support the whole creation theory. It's easier to say that then believe they might be wrong about everything from creation to there only being one god.

Why do they think that their religion was the first? Same reason....

  3. we do't believe in this

And we do't have to look to the number available in bibles the same way we look to the number  today.

And the accurate  number available in the bible, does reflect  or give hints about  the age of the earth .

those numbers are there to give us a  clear view about hte mercy of god and how long he stayed close to his people.

and the time frame used in the bible is to mark a start point  for where the story begins.

    best regards

  4. Numerous reasons, usually either completely religious in nature or a sort of spin-doctoring of modern science. It doesn't fit together very well, either way. A 7,000 year old planet would essentially be a magically maintained hollow ball of loose dirt.

  5. It is a approximation of the timespan which encompasses the entire genealogy of man (back to Adam and Eve) according to the Judeo-Christian concept.  I think that although most Christians would accept this as a fact (the amount of time people have been around), the question of how long the earth has been around is a different question.  I tend to think of the 6 days of creation as phases which may represent very large chunks of time (for example the first day, the creation of light may encompass the formation of the very first stars in the universe), but I am also open to the possibility that it may mean a literal 24 hour period.  Without dragging this on to answer directly, Christians come to the conclusion that man was created roughly that amount of time ago but the age of the earth could be anywhere from the age of man + 7 days to the age of man + millions or billions of years.

  6. Christians take their dates based on the earlier Jewish calculations of the years and generations from Adam, the first man and the creation of the world, and is the basis of the Jewish Calendar Lu'ach Iv'ri. The Jewish calendar is a lunar calendar and quite different to the Western Calendar based on a reformed version of the Roman Julian Calendar. I believe the current Hebrew Year to be 5768, counting one year before the epoch of creation. I also believe that Freemasons use this calendar too.
