If abstinence programs work why do most kids who swear they won't have s*x still end up "doing it"? How is a pledge going to stop human nature?

  1. If you actually stay abstinant...it works but the programs don't unless the teen is very devoted. Teens will be teens and there is nothing you can do to stop it. Not even religion. Catholics don't like contraceptives but most of the female catholics that I went to school with said that they were on birth control at the time. A pledge is only as good as the person who makes it.

  2. To make a plege is a commitment that has different values for every person. The hope is that having made a pledge most kids will at least stop and think twice before making thier choice. Also the hope is that is will stop some kids from making a choice they may not be ready for yet.

Also it is hard for a kid to feel any "natural urges" when they dont have any experiance. Its not until they start getting into the pre s*x acts that they want more phisically.

  3. Well, if we werent so backwards and afraid (as a society) to talk to our kids about s*x and the consequences of having it to early in life, perhaps they would learn morals from their parents instead of TV shows.

It just shouldnt be taught in schools, we NEED parents to teach their kids and stop relying on the state to do it.

    Edit:

I mean, to be real, the only 100% successful thing at preventing STD's and pregnancy is abstinence.  But no, teaching it in school wont work.  Too many parents- either actively or passively- advocate other means.

  4. It's hard to get abstinence to work today because most kids are too influenced by today's devil driven societies and refuse to listen to the warnings of those who are from the societies of the past that were God driven..

  5. Abstinence does work. Abstinence programs, on the other hand, are utter nonsense.

  6. According to Christians, abstinence is only 99.99% effective. So even if the programs did work, they still wouldn't be foolproof.

  7. Psst...Christians who promote abstinence are not logical. They can't be bothered with the facts (like teenage pregnancy, STD rates, etc.).

  8. A pledge cannot stop human nature- only a change of heart and conviction can. My husband and I dated for 3.5 years and were both virgins until our wedding night... it is well worth the wait!

  9. I don't know.  It worked for me!

  10. Irresponsible teens will get themselves pregnant regardless.

Does anyone really know any teens that dont know about birth control or how a person gets pregnant?  Stop shifting the blame to others.  Its their responsibility.

This is just another example of how we are teaching kids that personal responsibility means nothing.  You get pregnant, blame the schools for you not using a condom.

  11. Because saying it's "human nature" is an excuse derived from teenagers and adults alike who want to believe their sexuality cannot be controlled and would rather listen to their bodies than their faith.

For Christians, God is the most important person in your life you please because in the end it matters what God thinks of you. If teenagers take purity pledges and don't honor that promise they weren't faithful to God to begin with.

  12. Abstinence "works" in a way. Abstinence is the act of not having s*x. So once a person has s*x, they're no longer practicing abstinence. Therefore a 100% success rate.

  13. I've seen statistics that indicate abstinence only is less effective in preventing teen pregnancy and std than s*x ed concerning contraceptives. But it is Christian dogma that abstinence is the ONLY right thing so they stick with it - regardless of its lack of efficacy.

  14. For it to work people have to follow it.

Just because you give a person a condom does not mean it will work. They have to use the condom for it work.

Even if they use the condom there is no guarantee it will work.

How is a pledge going to stop human nature?

    By not having s*x.

You can use self will to not have s*x.

    s*x is not a necessity.

You will not die if you do not have it.

  15. Well .... if the kids are having s*x, they aren't abstaining are they?  True abstinence does work.  I was 28 when I got married and a virgin.  OMG!  And guess what ... I don't regret it and my husband was blown away.

A pledge won't do anything.  Each person has to make a commitment to themselves and THEN put safeguards in place to protect their virginity.  If you put yourself in a position of temptation, you are likely to fall.
