Why do churches celebrate Halloween?

last year my old church did not have Wednesday night service because they threw a Halloween party for the kids, claiming they did it was for safety purpose. you know, they didnt want the kids going around and getting bad candy from the community. If that was the case, they should have thrown a huge party, a play or even a movie, but all they did was have bake sale, handing out candy and that was basically it. they gave spiritual brochure trying to get people to come to the church, but there was nothing spiritual that happened that night. I wrote on the church blog asking the pastor, how can you not have service on Halloween night but throw a party for the community. that story of looking out for the safety of the kids was a bunch of bull since you had no activities planned for the kids other then handing out candy. l think it is sicking when churches closes their doors on holidays. Not just Halloween but all holidays.

Well Auld Hollows Eve was a Christian thing at first, it was about observing the dead.

The ghosts part is newer and made up from that.

The long answer would be if it is revisiting AHE then it s a religious thing. If its talking witchcraft then its a bit odd in a religious sense.

But in reality your church is probably just entering into a fun thing which is the reality of Halloween, it is candy floss. Those that take it seriously are deluded. Your Church is just being part of the community, don't take it so seriously.

They shouldn't call it Holloween party, but fall Festavel. they do it to help kids be safe from evil on the streets, and have safe fun for them verse, the chances of getting harmed. WHY do you celibrate CHRIST,,mas??? LOL On Halloween I get tracks from www.chick.com and send them out in the goodi bags.WHY do they have track with haloween cartoons inside? go see for youself, you may like

My church doe's not celebrate halloween.

Although some of the younger members dress up in  white; to look like angels, and give out sweets and tracks, {small pieces of paper with scripture on.}

But here is a thought:

Why is it that America has always celebrated halloween and still do, more than any other country in the world?

--Popular view is that Halloween is for kids and its for candy.  Many people if they bother to look up its original meaning would argue that it started out bad then over the years got changed and now candy is involved and its something for the kids.

I grew up in a home where Trick-R-Treating was taboo.  That simply sucked.  My husband grew up with it but when he discovered what Halloween was really about he renounced it and refused to go trick-r-treating again.

I have yet to let my kids go, as in me taking them, but if they want to go with friends that is another thing.  I have my issues with Halloween.  A church if they do any kind of Halloween celebration shouldn't be in the name of safety it should be in the name of fall harvest.  

Today Halloween makes me sick.  It like many other things is way to commericalized so the stores can make money.  End of story.

You did right by putting you concerns in writing for the church.  Halloween is coming up this year.  How about this:  You be on the activies planning and help the church plan a better celebration, fall harvest perhaps one of you church members have a barn.  A barn yard party would be far better than the church one.
