  1. it is purely for statistical purposes as someone mentioned. it does you no harm. get the grades and get in. end of story.

don't take too much notice of all this ethnic columns. just fill them in. if you are acedemically strong, nothing can stop you from doing the course.

  2. primarily to demonstrate compliance with federal reporting requirements. They MUST ask...... also some offer special 'diversity' programs which may mean scholarships and grants for 'under-represented groups'.

  3. For affirmitive action purposes maybe?

  4. They need to accept a certain amount of minorities..for example if the school you want to go to needs twenty percent minority and they get less applications for minorities they have a better chance of getting in

  5. so that the college can pick more diverse students. whites get screwed over

  6. They tell you its exclusively for research purposes, but its a little more than that sometimes.  If you've heard of the term "affirmative action" - it has a lot to do with that (google it if you're unfamiliar).  So by indicating your race you may have a greater or lesser chance of admission.

  7. To see, statistically, who is interested in their college and whether it is becoming more or less diverse. It's not so they can fill any "saved" seats for African-Americans or women.

  8. for statistics

    and identification purposes

  9. It is for statistical purposes as well as there are many scholarships and grants available to students based upon race and ethnicity.

  10. Statistical purposes. Those categories are never required.

  11. i think its because you can possibly get a scholarship if you are african american or indian idk lol
