Question:

Why do companies post a position open and then remove the posting after only one day?

I am looking for a job with a number of particular companies, primarily to go overseas. Everyday I check the websites. Often I find that one position I want to apply for, sometimes I will apply right away and sometimes I want to tweak my resume before submitting. My problem is, the very next day the position is removed. Nowadays, I submit my resume immediately, but I sometimes go back to see if the position is still posted. Many times it is not, why do companies do that? What is the logic?

  1. There are a few possible reasons. One is that the employer filled the position, often internally. Another is that they were deluged with applications, and want to catch up on reviewing them. A third is that there is some sort of requirement that they post a position but they don't really want to, so they fulfill the rule by posting the job for just one day. Anyway, employers do strange things. Another similar thing they do is to post a job they have no intention of hiring for -- they just want to go "fishing" to see what kind of talent is out there!
