Why do companies tend to lose good employees but end up keeping the bad employees?

  1. Good employees know what they are worth and they will often leave if not compensated.


  2. good employees tend to be independent thinkers, and are able to think on there feet.  managers sometimes feel that they are a threat and like the "do as I say no questions asked" people

  3. This has been called the "Dead Sea Effect"

    in which good employees leave when there are incentives (layoffs) etc., because they can get jobs elsewhere and see opportunities.  The ones who *cannot* make it anywhere else, stay.

  4. Good employees are looking for the next best opportunity. You have to challenge good employees. Good employees have a lot more options because they are good!
