Why do cops do nothing?

I went to my cousin J's house last night to just hang out and drink a few beers. J's brother called him and said he wanted to fight 2 kids from down the street. J's girlfriend called the 2 kids down the street and told them this. The kids showed up in a large group.

After a while when J's brother didn't show up, I told them that they should probably just continue with their night and just go home because he wasn't going to come to fight. They started yelling at me telling me that they wanted to fight me now, for no reason. I went into the house just to get away from the whole situation.

After a few minutes I went back out to grab my beer. Nobody was outside so I sat down on the porch. That's when a kid came up and sucker punched me knocking me off of the porch and I landed on my back and neck.

They came charging after me, but I ran, and called the cops.

When the cops showed up they did nothing. And even said that they saw no mark on me yet x-ray at the hospital showed contusions.

  1. The cops did nothing because it wasn't worth their time. They want the case that they can be proud of and retire on. Someone getting assaulted for no reason won't bother them. They want to catch drug dealers and murderers. They overlook real problems for the really bad problems. Cops really don't care about our problems at all unless they can benefit from it.

I don't call the cops anymore about anything because I know they're corrupt.

    F the Police.

  2. --- You really haven't given enough information to give any good response other than to explain why.

--- Indeed, looking at what you have said here from some perspectives you could be looked at as being cited. All you have really said was there was a loud, boisterous party going on and some from your own group started the trouble by bragging he was going to start a fight. The incident went neigborhood when one of your group phoned another group and issued a fight challenge! The other side shows up, there is loud boisterous challenging going on. People are drinking and likely drunk. Words are exchanged and eventually someone sucker punches you in the head. Somewhere along this line someone called the police, we don't know who, maybe a pissed off neighbor. In any case they show up and you give your side and I guess others give theirs. The police decided not to arrest anyone at that time and they leave and you feel unsatisfied.

--- Are you in the USA? There is a HUGE difference in how police in the USA and in other countries operate!

--- Assuming, assuming mind you, that this happened in the USA and it really happened as you say it did there are some other questions. You say that you went to the hospital and the X-ray showed "contusions?" I ask because X-rays only show echos off hard targets like bone or metal objects.

--- A "contusion" is just another name for a  bruise. Bruises / contusions do no not show up on x-rays..

--- Aside from that I would want to know how often have the police been to your place? What kind of police record do you or the others there have? How often have the police been in that neighborhood?

--- Was the house you were in Yours or someone elses? When the police were there did you agree to write out a statement?, sign the complaint? Did anyone else agree to write out witness statements supporting your claims or was it just your word against theirs??

--- Also, I would suspect you had been drinking more than just a couple Barley Pops that night, correct? Your level of intoxication bares strongly on the accuracy of your statements, whether a judge, DA or juror will believe them . And this goes as well for the witnesses and bad guys.

--- I ask these things because they ALL bare into the decisions of a cop.

---  Now assuming this IS in the USA... Most States will not allow their police officers to make a criminal arrest unless they themselves witnessed it OR they have the written statement of a citizen who did witness it. Then he arrests the suspect and the suspect is brought to jail where he either must remain to see a judge in the morning (felonies) or he can post a cash bond that guarentees he will show up for his court date.

    - Now, I said MOST states because in the OTHER remaining states officers are not allowed to make an arrest unless and until they have the SWORN complaint of the victim or a witness. In these areas the officers gather up the complainant and the suspects and witnesses and herd them all down to the office where they are questioned and statements are taken. Then they are all brought before a magistrate, they must have a magistrate on 24/7, where they are all sworn in and swear that their statements are true. Then the judge hears the officer's brief description of events and he authorizes the officer to jail the bad guy.

--- Did you tell the officers that you could ID the culprit who hit you? If you couldn't ID the guy who hit you then there was very little to nothing they could do at that time other than gather information and turn it in for detectives to follow-up on later,

    guy(s).

--- I explained all these things because you have to understand that police work is not just a "plug & play" operation. You can't just fill in the blanks on a questionaire and then have everything go right along.

--- There are so many variables involved, so many what ifs...that you can't really answer a question like yours without getting a lot more information.

--- I know you want a definitive answer but what I have been explaining here is all about why there is no such thing here without a LOT more information.

--- You have the choice of just letting things go OR on the next business day you could go to the police station and ask to talk to a detective and see what he can do, but don't be surprised if they start asking you some hard questions.about how much you were drinking, etc.

--- IF you actually, really did nothing wrong and were the total victim then you should ask for a detective to better investigate it. If you were victimized then you are entitled to have better service than you got. Remember that the Police are your employees and you pay for them.

  3. Wow, sorry to hear about that cause, most cops that I know would of treated you ALOT better and would of done their job alittle more professionally thats for sure. Maybe you just got some young cops that though they knew it all and in all reality they didn't know anything about anything at all and  should be thought some type of lesson. If you want I think you have a great case to go to the police station and file a complaint, that way their superiors will atleast have it infront of them and then their aware of the situation ect. Maybe then they may get some reprimand that they well deserve, that's up to you. Hope your feeling better soon. And better luck next time, eh? :)

  4. Assault & battery complaints don't bring in any money to the cops like traffic tickets do. They make money catching speeders, it's all about the money.

  5. If you feel unjustly wronged; file a complaint with internal affairs.
